I keep seeing these little plastic test tubes - both empty and pre-filled - and I thought it would be great to have something cute to hold them!

It is sized to fit these mini craft tubes found at ACOT, they are are 1" in diameter and 4.5" tall. There are food safe and have a plastic cap. There are lots of sizes available too!

I love my newest box! I know, I say that every time, but really, I do! This cupcake box is big enough to fit a full size cupcake and includes an insert to keep your cupcake in place!

Hello Everyone!

I don’t know about you but October is speeding by even faster than September did and I’m afraid to blink and it’ll be Halloween and I still won’t have the kid’s costume done! :) Halloween is such a fun time and we love it at our house and it got me to thinking about goodies bags and boxes for giving away sweets to friends and family.

And I remembered Wendy’s super cute Cake Slice Box.

There are soooo many cute things that can be done with this template!

Oooh that’s more like it, candy boxes!!

So I came up with this, to stash some candy in and when it’s empty it can be a cute desk decoration!

Oh and can you just imagine one of these as a Christmas tree??? Hmmm I better get to work!!

Since Wendy hasn't had a new release in a bit, I figured I'd take advantage of the amazing stuff she does have, and share some of what others have created with these amazing hybrid projects!!

This was from DownThisRoadDesigns. I just love the theme!! Pirates are SO much fun!!

These were done by Evie. She seems to have so much fun playing with hybrid cards, and I don’t know about you, but I just love to see them!

This one by Mara just makes me smile so broadly. It’s so elegant and beautiful and looks so professional! That’s what I love about Wendy’s products! They look so professional!!

2 Birthday Cards

This weekend was my both my stepmom and “stepdaughter’s” birthdays. I say it in the quotes because she’s my boyfriend’s daughter. We don’t live together but I love her :) I made them each a card and thought I’d show them off! First up is stepdaughter’s:

I used Funky Funk by Marni Designs. She turned 14 and this kit was perfect for her!

I used a corner punch on just one corner to add some interest to the shape.

And a close up of the word art I created with shrunken down elements, 6 different fonts and the alpha from the kit:

For my stepmom, I went with a traditional birthday kit, Make a Wish by FlutterbyeFaery Designs, though I decided to leave off the obvious birthday elements:

(don’t mind the crooked bracket – homemade charm, right?)

And a close up of the layers:

I printed the layers separately and attached them with pop dots. I forgot to put a sentiment on the circle before I printed, so I grabbed a fine tipped sharpie and tried my best not to screw it up ;)

Nesting Boxes!

Father’s Day Treat Bags

With Father’s Day just a few days away, I wanted to share the cute treat bags I made!

I also used my Treat Me Template

I cut the flap into a “W” shape to resemble a shirt collar and inked the edges so that they didn’t just blend in, then I printed patterned papers onto regular copy paper for the origami ties. You don’t want to use cardstock for them because there is lots of folding.

I practiced both with unprinted paper, to get the hang of the folds and figure out what size was going to work best.

For the neck tie, I used this tutorial from the Operation Write Home blog. I started with a 4” square, just like their instructions. If you want a diagonal striped tie like mine, make sure that your square is cut in line with the stripes (vertical or horizontal). Because it gets folded on the diagonal, starting with diagonal stripes finishes with straight stripes.

For the bow tie, I used this video tutorial on VideoJug. They use a dollar bill, which is 2.5” x 6”. This turned out a little big for this bag, so I started with 2”x5.5” instead.

It’s kind of hard to see in the pictures, but the ties have great dimension on them, they are puffy and realistic!

I just used some double stick tape to adhere the ties to the flaps.

I finished off the bow tie bag with some shirt buttons and closed the flaps with repositional adhesive. Velcro or magnets would work too and help give the collar some extra dimension too! Slip a gift card or some candy inside and you’re all set for Father’s Day!

PDF Outlines!?

What do you do with the PDF outlines that come with most of the templates by WendyBird Designs? At first I thought they were pretty useless and thought about deleting them. I'm so glad that I didn't.

One afternoon I was making a crown using Crowns Vol. 1: Princess for my niece using PSE9. My son comes up and tells me that he wants to make one too. So I told him that I would make him a crown next. He said, "No, I want to do it myself". I then explained to him that making them isn't something that little boys could do. So he no sad. I started thinking and then realized I had the PDF outlines with the templates that I had. So I printed it out and let him get to work.

It's really easy to do. All you have to do is print out the PDF outline that you can find in the template folder when you purchase templates from WendyBird Designs. I like to cut it out before handing it off to my son to decorate.

Now it's ready to be colored, painted, glittered, or whatever else you/child decides to do.

The days are so hot this summer, that the kids get bored and in most areas (like here in Louisiana) it's too hot to sit outside to play. So this can be the perfect project for the little ones to do. You don't only have to do the crown, there are lots more to choose from.

I even made myself one. :)

I hope that you had a great iNSD weekend and a great Mother’s Day! I did some shopping and now I just have to find time to scrap with the goodies I bought! :) Mother’s Day was relaxing for me and my boyfriend took me, his mom and my son out for a yummy sushi lunch! The weather was gorgeous here in Phoenix so we ate out on the patio – so nice! I was very happy to have my son home this weekend too, even if I did have to take him back to his dad’s on Sunday.

On to the hybrid goodies! For Fresh Baked Brownies today, I have a set of card templates!

Hi everyone, Tanyia here! I am so excited to be back here sharing off some more of Wendy's stuff! I was looking through all her goodies at Brownie Scraps and I realized I had never played with some of the templates in the store that were previously released!

So I snagged this super cool set here (image linked directly to the store!):

I love that you can make matching envelopes! Usually card templates do not come with them and I can never seem to get making an envelope right on my own, so this is SO perfect for me! I made two cards so far, and I think I may just make a 5 or 10 card set and gift them as a gift at Christmas time! How perfect would that be?

Scoring Lines Tutorial

Scoring your lines is a very important step in assembling your hybrid project. Card stock and other heavy weight paper does not fold cleanly like copy weight or notebook paper. Scoring your lines creates an indentation that breaks down the fibers of the paper to give it a guideline to fold.

Scoring your lines is the difference between this:

There are a range of tools you can use to score your folds and today I’m going to take you through some of them - including what you already have at home!

I’m going to start with my favorite - the Martha Stewart Scoring Board. It retails for 19.99 but if you buy it at a chain craft store like Michaels or JoAnn, make sure you use a 40% or 50% off coupon!

It comes with a small bone folder and an envelope guide that slides into a compartment underneath. There is also a storage compartment at the top for the bone folder.

I added the red line using a Super Fine Point Sharpie. This is a huge help when you’re scoring lines that aren’t perpendicular or parallel to a straight edge.

There are comparable scoring boards on the market, like the Scor-Pal and the Scor-it-All, but the Martha Stewart is the lowest priced and is also the only one with grooves every 1/8 inch. You also won’t find the others at most chain stores.

The bone folder that comes with this scoring board does the job, but it’s pretty thin and the edges are a bit sharp. It’s not very comfortable in my hand and if you use too much pressure it can break through the paper. This is a risk with most scoring tools though, so I recommend practicing on scrap paper no matter what method you’re using.

Because I wasn’t completely satisfied with it, I upgraded to the Martha Stewart Bone Folder. (Use a coupon!)

It is a much heavier weight and rounded so it is much more comfortable to use. Because it is wider, it also doesn’t fit all the way down in the groove like the thin one so it won’t break through the paper.

The bone folder is also a great tool for creasing your folds. This helps give them that sharp crease.

If you don’t have a scoring board, you can also use the bone folder on it’s own. If you have a steady hand, you can freehand it or else use it with a ruler.

You’ll have best results if you have something underneath your paper that has a bit of give to it, such as a self healing mat, a mouse pad or magazine.

If you have a paper trimmer (I have this Cricut one), you can use a scoring blade instead of a cutting blade.

This is one you definitely want to practice with. It’s very easy to break through the paper - I usually do 3 or 4 very light passes.

If you don’t have any special paper crafting tools, don’t worry, you can still get great results! Grab a butter knife and 2 magazines (or a ruler and a magazine…or a mouse pad and a magazine - something to use as a straight edge and something to pad underneath). Use the back side of the butter knife - not the side the the little serrations.

Final tip: When you’re scoring your folds, the ridge that is created on the underneath should be the inside of the fold.

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great St. Patrick's Day and didn't have too much trouble from those pesky little leprechauns.

Using a Hybrid Template

Hybrid projects can seem a bit intimidating if you’ve never tried, but today I want to show you just how easy it is! In the coming weeks I’m going to do a series of technique tutorials and challenges, but today I want to start with the very basics, using a template. If you can use a layout template, you can use a hybrid template! For the purposes of this tutorial, I’m going to start at square one, but still read along - you might pick up a tip or two along the way!
First of course you’ll need one of my templates! Find them in my store at Brownie Scraps, or else check out the monthly hybrid challenge!
You will need to have a photo editing software such as Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, or Pixlr - a free program that runs online, you don’t even need to download anything! I have only played with it a little bit, but it seems to be set up similar to Photoshop. If you are using it and have questions, let me know - I will do my best to help!
When you unzip, you will find the template in multiple formats: PSD - to use in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, TIFF - to use with PS, PSE and other programs (smaller than a PSD), individual PNG layers - to use with Pixlr and other software, and a PDF - this is the outline only that you can print on colored cardstock if you don’t want to customize it with digital kits. Pick what format works best for you. I also include step by step instructions for 3D templates. If you’re not sure how a template is going to be put together, it’s a good idea to print the PDF version and do a trial run. That way you don’t waste color ink! And if you ever have any questions about a template or hybrid in general - before or after you purchase - please don’t hesitate to contact me! Open the template either by double clicking on it on the file, or by choosing File > Open in Photoshop. It’s always a good idea to go ahead and save the template under another name so that you don’t accidentally save over the original.
This particular template prints on two 8.5 x 11 sheets of paper. For now, we’re just working with the box bottom.

You will notice that I include a layer that is the full shape, as well as layers that you may want to customize. There is also a layer that is your cut and score lines, but we’ll talk about that one more later. Some templates also have a layer labeled “DELETE”. This is simply a guideline for you to be able to see which part of the template is what and which direction will end up being up.
Next you’ll need to choose that paper you’re going to use to decorate your template. I’m using Giddy Up Girl by FlutterbyeFaery Designs

Bring your paper into Photoshop either by dragging it into your workspace or by choosing File > Open
Drag your paper onto your template canvas (hold shift to keep it centered).

Here’s a close up of my layers at this point. I am going to make my box bottom all the same paper, so I’ve turned off the layers that separate the bottom and sides. You can delete them completely.

We want to use a clipping mask to “cut” the paper in the shape of the template. Make sure that your paper is the layer above the shape you’re going to clip it to. There are a few ways to create your clipping mask - you can choose from the menu Layer > Create Clipping Mask, you can do Ctrl/Command+Alt+G on your keyboard, or you can use my preferred shortcut - hold down alt and hover your mouse between the two layers until it turns into two intertwined circles, then click your mouse.

Resize your paper and move it until you are satisfied with how the pattern falls.
Now for your Lines layer. If you leave them black, they will really stand out on your finished project and you should have your great handiwork noticed - not the lines! Here’s an example where I forgot to make any adjustments. It really detracts from the cuteness!

To make the lines just dark enough to see for assembly we want to change our blending mode of the lines layer. The easiest way to do this is to change it to Soft Light. This will change the lines to the color of the paper under them.

If your paper is very light or very dark, they may disappear completely. If this happens, change your blend mode back to normal but lower the opacity to about 20%. As a rule, I got about 5% lighter than I think I need to - they will still print enough for you to see when it’s flat but they will blend in once they’re folded.
After you’ve done this, you can flatten your layers and print! Check out my post the forum here for printing tips.
If the template goes together in a way that the back of the page will be seen, I like to print on the back side of my paper too. In this example, the back of the page becomes the inside of the box. I generally don’t like to see any plain white cardstock on my projects. It is pretty impossible to get the front and back of your paper lined up exactly, so I will print a full page. The little bit of extra ink it takes is worth it to me to get rid of that offensive white! haha
From there, just follow the instructions to put together your project and enjoy!

Hybrid Happiness!

Hi y'all! Tanyia here. I wanted to share with you some of the happiness of the hybrid world that I have found since beginning this hybrid adventure! Wendy has some amazing templates but you can also do hybrid projects with out templates, and use the templates in your stash to even inspire things you would never have considered before! Take a look at some of the hybrid happiness I have found in digi land. Each picture is linked so that you can see all the proper credits and see that I let the people know they are having their brilliance displayed for the whole blogosphere to share!

First, here is one from me. This is done using a Martha Stewart Hydrangea punch and a styrofoam ball:

Splendidly Spring Freebie

Sigh. So last night I wrote up my whole post with my new release, pictures, the freebie, the whole she-bang and scheduled it to post for this morning. Well apparently I only saved it as a draft, didn’t publish it. I use Live Writer (love it!), so it’s saved on my laptop at home and now I’m at work so I can’t access my draft.

I’m going to wait and do the new release post later because we are switching our store software over to XCart (yay!) and I didn’t load it into the old one.

Christmas Trees, not just for Christmas…

Hello Everyone! Sandy (SandyPie) saying hi, a little late this sunny Thursday, I wanted to show you a little pet project I’ve been working on starring something you may not expect this time of year.

I love Wendy’s Tiered Tree template, but Christmas is too short, and this one has potential for other uses, like this:

A fun little mobile, almost sculpture dare I say. No, it’s not perfect but I smile when I see it. I think something like this would be fun for a baby room for a pseudo mobile, I don’t know if the inks are safe for little people and I’d probably run my corner rounder on the points just to be safe, but aren’t the mobiles supposed to be out of reach anyway. ;)

Hopefully I’ve opened your mind a little to some new possibilities with “seasonal supplies”.

My Introduction!

I wanted to pop in and say Hello!

My name is Tanyia. I have been CTing for Wendy for a few months, taking a couple off for personal health reasons, but am back now! I am so excited, too! I like working for Wendy because she truly has some adorable designs, she is helpful, on top of things, and actually pretty darn nice!

I don't know, I think if you want to buy things and become part of the hybrid family you should know who you are dealing with, if you know what I mean. So I will assume you agree and introduce myself formerly!

I just recently turned 36. I am a stay at home mommy to three beautiful children. They are 18, 12, and 9 and all girls. Right now we live in Northern Virginia, outside of D.C. I have been digital scrapbooking for about 3 years now and fell in love with hybrid when I saw all the beautiful little things you can do with it! But, believe me I am still learning and growing and so I would love to share my hybrid journey with you!

I can not wait to share all the hybrid goodness with you, so stay tuned!!!

Adding a New Spin

Sarah here! Time to take notes and kick butt. Um, wait. Oh, yeah. TWO different thoughts! Sorry, random here! Kids were out of school for 2 days for snow days, and today, my husband has been home all day sick. THANKFULLY, he's not the typical male and only asked for a refill of orange juice, AND listened to me and took some Ester-C and Echinacea :P

With the Winterpalooza event going on, I've been going a little "hybrid" crazy. Don't ask me how many projects I've made. Let's just say that I will probably have to buy more ink before February is over.

Anyways, one of my favorite classic projects is the Keep Me Posted hybrid project.
This time, I made it with the new Love Story collab (free when you spend $10). I love how it turned out.

I don't have any shots of it, but my daughter decided to add her own touch to it, and drew hearts in the corners. Aww!

Too bad she lied half the day saying she didn't do it :(

Get Organized ... Failed

Sarah here! My kids are out of school for a snow day. I really hate snow days, only because they throw my days and the week out of wack. Oh well, I had a little one home yesterday, as well, because of a pretty decent fever. Poor guy!

So. That picture? My obsession. I'm ALL about the office supplies. I'm ALL about the organization and things like that. I'm really loving Avery's new removable labels. They work GREAT on planners.
The Sharpie "pencils"? Oh, they're AMAZING! I <3 them!

So, what's that have to do with hybrid scrapping? A BIG thing!

If you print out the instructions (like I do), you need a place to store them, right? Well, just hole-punch them, and put them in binders! Then you can use the labels and things, and you'll easily be able to find what you're looking for! No need to buy dividers. Though, if you're like me, you'll buy them anyway!

They also work great for organizing all other types of projects!!

Playing With Children

Sarah here! Another "fun" tale of kids :)

One of the best things, I think, of having a little girl, is the ability to play with her hair. I have a living breathing Barbie doll.

My daughter, Madison, is one of the reason I got into hybrid scrapping. The projects around are just SO much fun and a lot of them are PERFECT for little girls!!

My daughter loves this little box to put candy in! She also suggested more than just using it for candy. Since I chose "Acceptance" as my "word for the year", that I can put thoughts and notes in it, something I can open and read if something is getting to me, something to remind me why I chose "Acceptance". She might only be seven, but she's SUPER smart!
